The Left’s War on Science, Part 5: Enemies in Education [Video]

Public schools

This is the final part of a series cataloging some of the areas where the Left is in conflict with science. Part one dealt with the hoax of ‘climate change.’ The second piece concerned the deceptions of abortion.

Part three chronicled the tragic trend of transgenderism, and part four detailed the errors of economics from the Left. Here we will examine the most critical battlefield in this struggle, the education system.

The Education Battlefield

Education battlefieldThe field of education in America is currently undergoing somewhat of a revolution. Charter schools, private schools, homeschooling, and online courses are exploding in popularity.

However, the arena is still dominated by the public education system. The figures show that public schools garner about 90% of American youth as of 2018.

In fall 2018, about 56.6 million students will attend elementary and secondary schools, including 50.7 million students in public schools and 5.9 million in private schools.

The overwhelming numbers of children exclusive to public education make it the most significant area of education today. It is the most important arena of this conflict.

Moreover, it is the arena that has set the stage for much of the current cultural climate and influence of the Left in America. It is imperative this is understood for the present battle as well as for future generations.

The Public Education Indoctrination System

Public education today specializes in indoctrination to Leftism. This has been the case for over 50 years.

As I have noted in previous articles, education took a turn toward the Left after two Supreme Court decisions removed prayer and Bible reading from public schools in 1962.

What happened afterward exhibits the foolishness of removing moral education from children in school.

The most relevant portion of this presentation concerns the severe drop in academic achievement since 1962. Bear in mind that this includes basic science education at the grade school level.

This video was current a few decades ago. There are some further developments since which have changed the landscape and not for the better.

One relates specifically to David Barton’s statement that the curriculum of public schools was not very different from that of private Christian schools. At the time, that was essentially true, but that is not so today.

The modern curricula of public schools is now rife with leftist cultural causes including things such as Common Core and promotion of transgender-friendly bathrooms and showers.

Once the element of ‘religious principle’ was cast aside, the door to the child’s mind was open to indoctrination. The Left walked through that door swiftly and less than five years later, unprecedented student protests began on university campuses all over America.

College protests

1970 Kent State protest against Vietnam War

Whether or not these protests, mainly against the Vietnam War, were justified is a question for another time. However, the fact that the students were successful in their on-campus actions for a time helped fuel the ascent of the Left’s influence in education and culture.

The Radicals Are Teaching the Teachers

One of the ironic results from that era is that the radical protesters are now tenured professors at Universities around the nation. Some of these professors were then renowned for their violent actions which resulted in the destruction of persons and property.

Two of the more famous examples came from an organization known as first as the “Weatherman” and later as the “Weather Underground.” One of its founders was Bill Ayers who, along with his wife Bernardine Dorhn, committed several bomb attacks and other violent acts beginning in 1968.

In 1968, Ayers became leader of the Students for a Democratic Society, and then a prominent leader of the violent “Weatherman group.” The group was associated with other international communist guerrilla and terrorist groups, including the Vietcong. Its objective was the furtherance of Soviet foreign policy and the defeat of the U.S. in Vietnam. In May 1970, the organization issued a Declaration of War against the United States authored by Bernardine Dohrn who was later to become Ayers wife…

Ayers went on to eventually become a distinguished professor in the College of Education at the University of Illinois at Chicago. His teaching centered on issues such as urban childhood education and social justice.

He taught there for 20 years, eventually retiring in 2010. He taught untold numbers of undergraduates his conviction that Socialist political power was superior.

His wife also went on to become a professor at Northwestern University holding the same convictions as Ayers. Ayers and Dohrn are just the most visible part of radical professors in our higher education system.

Reaping the Harvest of Leftist Education

University teachingThe extreme radical Left of today has passed, or is passing through a complete indoctrination in Socialist politics which culminates at the university level. The students began this journey into leftist darkness in grade school.

The majority of university professors in almost every field, including education, are hardcore leftists specializing in subjects such as ‘gender equality,’ ‘women’s studies,’ and the like.

This instruction begins as early as kindergarten, and becomes more involved and focused when the students get into high school. One example of how this is applied comes from free curriculum given to schools by GLSEN, the Gay, Lesbian & Straight Education Network.

Here is a taste of this guide for teaching our young people.

Women’s Empowerment – Grade level: 9-12
“Muslim Feminism” is a neat lesson that explores the stereotypes, experiences, and struggles for Muslim women in society. However, there are many other lessons found on this site that are very useful for Humanities classrooms: Gender-based violence, Homophobia in hip-hop, Manhood and gender identity, etc. This website will take you a long time to look through because there are so many rich resources that cover environmentalism, democracy, masculinity, feminism and the media.

There are more basic general studies for the K-12 student also offered by GLSEN. In each case, the emphasis is on the promotion of LGBTQ ‘rights’.

Feminist symbolThe recent cause of transgender ‘rights’ has sprung almost directly from Leftism dominating the classroom for the last 30-40 years. The so-called ‘pro-choice’ movement was the direct fruit of early feminist provocateurs such as Betty Friedan, one of the founders of NOW and NARAL Pro-Choice America.

The especially egregious errors of these leftist efforts are the ditching of scientific facts concerning human life in the womb and the biological truth of human gender. These truths are tossed aside in favor of leftist cultural and political ideology.

That ideology has become increasingly radicalized and operates beyond the bounds of science, reason and morality. So much so that even physical harm to toddlers and teens in the name of transgender ‘rights’ is actively promoted in society as well as public schools today.

The Righteous Education Solution

The Left’s control over public education has been near total during the last half century. How is such a stranglehold to be countered?

It is noteworthy that even with such power, the Left has not managed to corrupt an entire generation of young people. How has that happened?

The answer can be summed up in one verse of the Old Testament.

Train up a child in the way he should go. Even when he is old he will not depart from it. Proverbs 22:6 [NASB]

The Scriptures teach that the education training of children is the responsibility of the parents, especially the fathers. There are three effective methods to accomplish this.

One is to educate the children exclusively in the home. Homeschooling is an available alternative in every state, though the laws vary concerning legal eligibility state to state.

A second choice is to send the child to a private school. This is a more expensive way than homeschooling, making it less attractive and available.

Both of these methods can greatly increase the chances of education being directed toward what is both true and moral. However, they are also very difficult for poor, single-parent households to manage.

30013878398_a5ed135010_mThere is one other way that parents can aid children being fed to the Leftist education machine. That is a commitment to insist that your children are being educated without the extreme bias of the Left while in public school.

There is a cost involved with such involvement in public school. It is the cost of time and commitment to a focus on knowledge rather than ideology in the government primary school system.

It further requires a good dose of courage on the parent’s part to do this. Which is why it should also be accompanied with a good dose of prayer for both wisdom and determination to see it through.

We are just beginning to see the potential of righteous education alternatives through the influence of voices old and young who reject the Left’s instruction. People such as Thomas Sowell, Walter Williams, Larry Elder, Buck Sexton, Ben Shapiro, and many others are small samples of that potential.
