Mainstream Media

This journal has featured several articles about the media and the shameful way they have “reported” in the past. Additionally, the plague of the social media attack dogs has exploded in modern times and made the situation immeasurably worse.

One thing I have learned about observing journalism and media is this, when you think you’ve seen the worst from them, they will prove you wrong. The latest outrages emerge from perhaps the worst week ever for the mainstream media, or MSM, whether in print, on TV, or deposited like sewage on the internet.

If there are worse manifestations of media malevolence possible, I fear what might be forthcoming.

BuzzFeed Beating up the Truth to get Trump

BuzzFeed was created in 2006 as a site which tracked viral videos. The site began to fashion itself as a “news” organization around 2011.

Despite their efforts, even hiring someone from left-wing Politico to help, BuzzFeed couldn’t get any traction as a news organization. The public just didn’t buy it.

a 2014 Pew Research Center survey found that in the United States, BuzzFeed was viewed as an unreliable source by the majority of respondents, regardless of age or political affiliation.[12]BuzzFeed News has since moved to its own domain rather than exist as a section of the main BuzzFeed website.[13]

Mainstream MediaStill, BuzzFeed News wasn’t getting much attention. But with the publication of the infamous debunked fake “Steele Dossier” that all changed.

Therefore, it is not a tremendous surprise that BuzzFeed News would provide the first of these demonstrations of malicious malfeasance in the media. This was the supposed leak from the Mueller camp that Cohen would testify that Trump ordered him to lie under oath and there was documentation to prove it.

The MSM, of course, pounced on this like it was the gospel truth which would finally destroy the demonic Donald Trump. The breathless and hopeful mantra of the Leftmedia clones CNN, NBC, MSNBC etc. was that “if true, this was impeachable.”

However, there was one most astonishing development which would dash those nascent hopes just a few hours later. Mueller’s team released an official statement that BuzzFeed’s claims were “not accurate.”

This was a blunt denial from those BuzzFeed claimed as their “sources” for the fallacious piece. This was worse than publishing the phony dossier which not even the Trump-hating networks thought worthy of their efforts at the time.

BuzzFeed says they “stand by their reporting.” Good luck with that.

Mueller is the darling of the Left. Your compatriots are not going to believe you over their champion.

It is amusing that the Left leaped at this so quickly because the BuzzFeed story doesn’t make sense. Mueller has nothing to gain by having this information and keeping it hidden for one second.

Conversely, he has everything to lose if because of this an investigation of leaks in his operation is the result. Mueller’s investigation itself would never survive with that kind of credibility gap attached to it.

Clearly, here is another example of the Leftmedia infected with Trump Derangement Syndrome. Unfortunately, TDS is real and really dangerous.

However, the media doesn’t need TDS to excuse the next example. Hating pro-life people has been a specialty of the Left for five decades.

March for Life MSM Coverage Very Deceptive.

The coverage of the March for Life was scant on the MSM. Despite that, it was many times larger in attendance than the so-called “Women’s March,” which was also held in Washington D.C. this last weekend.

The 2019 Women’s March received roughly 15 times more news coverage than the 47th March for Life on broadcast television, according to the Media Research Center. …NewsBusters managing editor Curtis Houck examined the coverage each event received on the ABC, CBS, and NBC morning and evening newscasts — and the results are staggering. …“Between Wednesday morning and Saturday evening, the Women’s March fetched 14 minutes and 26 seconds of coverage… this stood in stark contrast to just 58 seconds for the March for Life,” Houck wrote. “For the March for Life, ABC and CBS were especially pitiful.”

Mainstream MediaLeftmedia outlets have been trying to distort and smear the annual National March for Life since the event began. This continued in 2019 even with the increased scrutiny modern tech provides.

In this age of video surveillance of and by everyone everywhere in public, it seems insane for anyone to believe they can make a false claim about an event like the March for Life. But that didn’t stop the Leftmedia from trying, and getting caught.

USA Today, the first result when you search for the march in Google News, began their story by saying, “more than a thousand anti-abortion activists, including many young people bundled up against the cold weather gripping the nation’s capital, gathered at a stage on the National Mall Friday for their annual march in the long-contentious debate over abortion.”

Yes, this is an accurate statement mathematically. The conservative estimates of 100,000 and more are greater than a thousand by about 100 times!

This tweet with video from Students for Life gives a 60-second time-lapse look at the massive amount of people pouring into the Washington D.C. March for Life 2019. You decide if this is merely a few thousand demonstrators.

Yet, even with this level of deception, the MSM wasn’t done with their malevolent and shameful misdeeds. The treatment given to the Covington Catholic High School students after the March was concluded is worse than even the smears leveled at Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh during his confirmation hearings.

The Unmatched Pernicious Media Treatment of the Covington High School Students

There has been an incredible amount of coverage about the aggressive confrontation tactics of both the so-called ‘Black Hebrew Israelites,’ and Native American Nathan Phillips toward the students of Covington Catholic High School after the March for Life on January 18th.

Mainstream MediaThe most spiteful, denigrating coverage appeared almost immediately after a few seconds of a viral video showing Phillips banging a drum and chanting inches from the face of teenager Nicholas Sandmann. Despite the fact that the full video was available to all the ‘news’ sources at the time, all that was shown on the MSM outlets was the shortened and clearly deceptive video.

The full video runs around two hours and tells a totally contradictory story of the incident. In short, it shows that all of the initial accounts of the media and the interviews Phillips gave afterward were lies, plain and simple.

Worse yet was the reaction on social media. Twitter, which Mark Dice correctly calls the “bathroom wall of the internet,” was filled with angry and violent responses to the fake video.

Calls for “doxing” the teens, expelling them from school, assaulting them and even one suggesting these children be fed into a wood chipper were all present! Twitter, to its continuing shame, didn’t object to any of this.

Worse yet were two particular responses. The first was the initial response from the Covington Catholic School and the Diocese of Covington.

Here is part of a statement they jointly released without having seen the full video or heard the student’s accounts.

We condemn the actions of the Covington High School students toward Nathan Phillips specifically, and Native Americans in general on Jan. 18, after the March for Life in Washington, D.C. We extend our deepest apologies to Mr. Phillips.

The school and the Diocese also threatened disciplinary action including expulsion of the students. The PC ‘cred’ they thought they could gain here made cowards of them, so they abandoned their kids.

Even the Archdiocese of Baltimore got in on the outrage party and condemned the students! And they did it all based on false testimony from false witnesses including Nathan Phillips and the MSM.

What Really Happened?

If the claims of Phillips are compared to the video evidence, he is shown to be false every time. The media’s enabling of the lie with the deceptively edited video makes them complicit in the lies.

He claims the students were taunting the Black Hebrew Israelites. False: Video evidence reveals the black supremacist group hurled racist insults at the students throughout the confrontation.

Phillips said that Sandmann blocked his way and he couldn’t retreat and was surrounded. All false as the video reveals.

The Native American activist stated the students chanted “Build that wall!” The video shows that never happened.

There are more such examples all showing the same pattern. However, one falsehood which is particularly irritating involves Phillip’s claim to be a Marine veteran who had served in Vietnam.

I served in the U.S. Army from 1973-76. Phillips served in the Marines from 1972-76. I did not serve overseas at all, let alone in Vietnam. Phillips claimed he did, which is extremely unlikely on its face.

Military deployments to Vietnam ceased in 1972. By the time I reached my station at Ft. Hood, TX in 1974, we were seeing soldiers return from Vietnam on a regular basis.

Phillips later walked back his claim. Perhaps he realized after reflection that the truth will come out (as it did, he never served in Vietnam) and that veterans, especially Marines, do not take kindly to ‘stolen valor.’

Nicholas Sandmann also released a written statement detailing the incident in as factual a manner as possible. The video evidence lines up almost exactly with his account.

The statement was also disturbing when Sandmann described what was happening to him and his family because of the uproar.

I am being called every name in the book, including a racist and I will not stand for this mob-like character assassination of my family’s name. My parents were not on the trip, and I strive to represent my family in a respectful way in all public settings. I have received physical and death threats via social media, as well as hateful insults. One person threatened to harm me at school, and one person claims to live in my neighborhood. My parents are receiving death and professional threats because of the social media mob that has formed over this issue.

Yet the media, specifically NBC’s Savanna Guthrie, while interviewing Sandmann on January 22, asked if he felt he “needed to apologize” for anything that happened. To his credit, Nick calmly and without malice denied any responsibility or need to do so, and he was correct.

She also suggested in one question if evil-looking MAGA hats that Nick and many other students were wearing might have been too provocative and caused the confrontation. That sounds kinda like blaming the rape victim for what she was wearing.

Incidentally, Guthrie also interviewed Nathan Phillips. She did not ask him to apologize for anything at all.

‘Conservatives’ Contributed to the Falsehood and Fury

This is the most disappointing and instructive part of this malicious media lynch mob mentality. Disappointing because it came from those who should know better; instructive because it teaches valuable lessons about media scrutiny.

Most disappointing was the ravenous rush to judgment of a few ‘conservatives’ who chose to destroy innocent teens that were simply waiting for their bus to arrive to take them home. It was the esteemed National Review which paved the downward path into journalistic degeneration.

According to an excellent YouTube video by Stefan Molyneux on the Covington Mob Mania, “The Truth About the Covington Confrontation”:

National Review deleted its article, posted Sunday at 2:55 a.m. titled “The Covington Students Might as Well Have Just Spit on the Cross.”

Nicolas Frankovich was the author of this defamatory, prejudicial, piece of elitist propaganda masquerading as a serious conservative appraisal of the event. National Review should have known better than even considering this for publication.

Which brings to mind the lessons to be learned here. A while ago I discovered the first lesson, which is waiting.

If you really want to know the truth of a sensational story, a ‘viral’ video and such, wait at least three days and see what the story becomes then. 72 hours is my minimum for waiting and watching.

I might not be on top of the breaking news, but that’s not what I write, except on occasion with sporting events. However, it also means there is a better chance of getting the whole story before commenting, rather than leaping headlong into unknown territory.

Mainstream MediaThe second lesson is to comprehend the consequences for those you chose to defame. The technological traps of today mean that these kids are going to be negatively associated with this event for a lifetime.

The media madly rushing to judgment is not excusable for any reason and just stokes passions that are destructive. The malice manifested reveals that destruction may be the evil intent implemented by slimy Twitter trolls and morally blind SJW’s.

Continuing down this path is disturbing, degenerate and frankly dangerous to the very idea of liberty and justice. Moreover, the loss of even the attempt to find the truth will stain the societal soul and enslave the people it possesses.

Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter! Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes, and shrewd in their own sight! Isaiah 5:20-21 [ESV]
